Our Care

Our 6 core values

The comfort and wellbeing of our residents is our highest priority

Dignity

Treating everyone with dignity is much like offering a warm, heartfelt smile - it's simple, yet it can mean the world. In this home, we take the time to know each person, their stories, and preferences, so that every interaction is laced with respect and a genuine understanding that each resident is indeed, very special.

Independence

Championing independence is akin to nurturing a garden - it's about providing the right conditions for each person to flourish on their own. Charnwood is filled with encouragement for residents to make their own decisions, from choosing their daily activities to deciding how their room looks. It's their life, their journey, and we're here to support, not steer.

Choice

Picture a colourful market brimming with choices - this is the atmosphere we aim for when it comes to the options available to our residents. From the menu at mealtimes to the roster of activities and entertainment, we firmly believe in presenting a variety of choices to cater to the diverse tastes and interests within our community.

Fulfilment

Our commitment to fulfilment is all about helping each resident add vibrant strokes to the canvas of their life. Whether rekindling a long-lost hobby or sparking a new interest, we're here to make those possibilities a reality. Charnwood is a place where life stories continue to be written with joy, connection, and a sense of accomplishment.

Privacy

At Charnwood, we hold the value of privacy very dear. We believe that every resident has the right to their own time and space. Just like a cosy corner of a library offers a tranquil retreat, we ensure that residents have their sanctuaries here, where they can relax, ponder, or simply enjoy a moment of solitude.

Rights

Just as firm foundations are essential to a house, the rights of our residents are the bedrock of our care home. We safeguard these rights with dedication, ensuring fairness, and equality are not just ideas, but actions we incorporate into every aspect of daily life. Every resident's voice matters, and we listen.

Activities

Our activities are not only created with the aim of having fun and to socialise but to also assist our residents with problem-solving skills and to aid in helping their cognitive and emotional developments. Physical and mental health are both improved not only by socialising but by physical activities. We host a range of activities from ball games, yoga, and fitness clubs.

We are passionate that it is the right of each of our residents to have the support to maintain their interests and to have opportunities to develop new ones.

All of our activities are designed by our activities coordinators, they are personalised and planned to celebrate all festivities from Easter to Eid and smaller holidays such as national chocolate cake day! Our aim is to make sure that every resident is included in a joyful way.

Our incredible activity coordinators are always thinking up new and creative activities, including events like bingo nights and garden parties. We also try to build partnerships with an array of local businesses, musicians, churches, and even farms, fostering a vibrant community network. Additionally, we host fundraising events, extending a warm invitation to the entire community.

Examples of activities we offer at our Care home.

  • Mobile Hairstylist and Barber. All our residents get a little pampering session whenever they require to keep up with their appearances. Our activities team also offer nail painting days and hair styling if residents would like to take part.
  • Occupational therapy with music. We offer a range of music from the 40s to current tunes where residents can have sing along to all the hits they love. There have been several studies which have shown the positive impact music has, especially for memory development which can help with those suffering from dementia.
  • Afternoon tea days. We offer a selection of tea and cakes which can be both in summertime in our gardens or inside.
  • We are offering bingo days where residents can get involved to try and call out BINGO!
  • In the warmer seasons we offer gardening days from helping plant flowers to decorating gnomes which come in a range of shapes and sizes.
  • We also offer both yoga and fitness classes by hand selected instructors who get the residents involved.
  • We also offer special event days to celebrate milestones such as the Kings Jubilee, Karaoke nights, cake tasting days and much more!

At Charnwood we believe that the best mealtimes happen with good food and good company. Therefore, we always aim to create a friendly and warm atmosphere around the dining table.

All of our meals are cooked fresh and served to suit our resident’s individual tastes, preferences and health needs. We offer a range of delicious meals, with treats on birthdays & special or festive occasions. From hearty breakfasts, lunches and dinners to tasty desserts, our menu is all about choice. Residents are always offered at least two options at mealtimes plus the opportunity to put in a request if they fancy something different.

Our menus change with the seasons keeping mealtimes fresh and enjoyable whatever the weather.

We can cater to all dietary requirements, including those who may require a ‘soft diet’ (puree) and healthier alternatives for medical conditions such as diabetes or hiatal hernias.

Ensuring healthy diet and fluid intake for our residents is of the utmost importance, with additional assistance on hand for those who require it. BMI and fluid intake is monitored in line with BAPEN guidelines to identify those who may be at risk of malnutrition or dehydration. We follow the FSA’s guidelines and have been rated 4 stars.

Our amazing team give their all to make a home from home for our residents, they do this so seamlessly you could be forgiven for forgetting that we are in healthcare and not hospitality, but rest assured our CQC Registered Manager and experience care team, working with external agencies such as GP’s, Dentists, Speech, and Language Therapists (SALT), ensure nothing is overlooked.

A good example of these collaborations would be when a resident feels under the weather. Our team recognises that when a resident is unwell this can impact their food and fluid intake. Diet and fluid charts will be carefully monitored by our experienced care team, and where necessary, the guidance of a GP will be sought. At this time the GP may prescribe food supplements, however, if there is still no improvement, we may then request a referral to the community dentist. Another example of these collaborations would be if we were concerned about a resident’s ability to swallow. In this case we may contact SALT’s. SALT’s will work alongside us, making recommendations on specialist diets, like if a possible thickener may be required to support fluid intake.

Snacks and drinks are available 24/7 to all residents and their guests. So grab a brew, some biscuits and make yourself at home.
